Gentlemen – and of course ladies. The second weekend of December and the 3rd of the Holiday season is upon us. The festivities and bustle are in full swing and I’m sure many of you may be filling a bit crunched for time. Do not skip your workout, or at least some form of a workout even if it is shortened. Do not get in the mind set that if you don’t have a full hour to commit that it’s not worth doing anything at all. Staying moving and active is more important at this time of year. Give yourself a gift this season – the gift of staying healthy!

Here are a few tips: 

If you can’t get to the gym, get out and take a walk. A brisk walk for even 15 minutes can change your mind set and up lift your spirit, especially if that walk is after eating or enjoying yourself a bit too much at a holiday party. Drag a friend or partner along for company you might discover that you’ll walk even further. If you live where it’s cold be sure to dress appropriately and watch out for the ice!

If your work out time has to be cut down – still go to the gym or workout anyway. If going to the gym shorten your routine a bit and change it up. Even 30 or 45 minutes works well. Start with some simple movement and stretching to get the blood flowing. Next, why not try full body or body weight exercises such as push ups and pull ups using various grips etc. Focus on your entire body and pay close attention to your form. Move from exercise to exercise quicker than you normally would and then finish with a short bit of your favorite cardio. Stay focused, don’t get distracted and don’t stop and chat.

Remember that even if you only have a few minutes to move and workout doesn’t mean that you shouldn’t do anything. Exercises is cumulative – 15 minute 3 times a day could easily do the trick and its a great way to keep your energy and mood up all day long.
